4 May 2013: SNCC - 141 for 6 vs Regent's Park - 70 all out. Won by 71 runs (league).
Regents Park won the toss and chose to put SNCC into bat under cloudy skies and facing a gusty northerly blowing. In our first ever U17s league game on the newly-laid Marshes pitch we got off to a shaky start, finding ourselves at 17 for 3 after just 5 overs. Regents Park kept the bowling reasonably tight until the 12th over which went for 11 and the next three overs went for 14, 10 and 22 with Irfan hitting the ball all round the ground, eventually falling to a sky-high catch - but not before taking the score on to 110 for 6 after 16 overs. The final overs were batted out without any further loss of wickets with some nice stroke play, eventually leaving Regents Park with a total of 142 to win.
The much-promised sunny weather failed to materialise, but Regents Park started off brightly despite a run out in the first over. Irfan struck with only his second ball and he was well supported at the other end. Arthur took the ball when they were 30 for 2 off 5 and caused some problems, picking up 2 wickets for his efforts whilst Johnny picked up 2 wickets in his first over at the other end. The pressure (and rain) was on at 51 for 6 off 8 overs before Timon took 2 wickets in consecutive balls and a third in his next over. After 14 overs, Regents Park finished 70 all out.
A good win for SNCC U17s, making their debut on the Marshes show pitch. I'm sure they will be looking for greater consistency in their play as much as in the wicket itself. Well done to all.
