U15s lose their unbeaten record

Wednesday 30 June 2011: Victoria Park U15s - 116 for 8 vs SNCC U15s - 99 all out.  Lost by 17 runs (league).

Under cloudy skies at Millfields, SNCC took on Victoria Park to try and maintain their unbeaten league record.  SNCC fielded first and leaked too many extras early on.  Theo picked up SNCC's first wicket with the scoreboard on 26 off four overs.  Their batting pair put on another 26 runs before Timon's leg spin struck picking up two wickets in his first over.  Johnny bowled just a single over which went for a costly 14.  By contrast, Arthur bowled tidily and economically finishing with excellent figures of 1 for 12 off his four overs.  Timon struck again twice, finishing with a fantastic 4 for 24, whilst their number 4 batsman continued to hit us round the ground.  Robin picked up a nice wicket ending his spell with 1 for 25.  With Irfan's 0 for 23 and Theo's 1 for 14, it was the leaking of 14 byes and 17 wides which resulted in Victoria Park's innings of 116 for 8.

The opening pair of James and Stanley went for a duck and 5 respectively.  Robin was out to a stunning caught and bowled and it was only extras which kept us almost up with the run rate. It wasn't until Irfan and Theo came to the crease that runs from the bat were added with Irfan making 17 and Theo 7.  Chay went for a duck and Timon for 2.  So it was left to Arthur and Johnny to try and pick up runs but at 76 for 7 off 14 overs it left little room for error.  Johnny got caught at deep midwicket going for a big yahoo and Amir was run out without facing a ball.  Arthur and Psaul were the last men standing and took the total to 99 before Arthur was stumped on 20.

A leaky fielding performance and the loss of too many cheap wickets early on were SNCC's downfall.  Victoria Park were a decent side but SNCC did not perform at their best losing by 18 runs.

This was SNCC's first league defeat - but if they beat Island next Thursday in their final game of the season, they will finish top of their league.
