U15s triumph in top of the table encounter

Sunday 27 May 2012:  SNCC U15s - 137 for 7 vs Victoria Park U15s - 69 all out.  Won by 68 runs.

SNCC won the toss and opted to bat under a scorching Marshes sun and a cloudless sky.

Victoria Park's opening bowling pair produced decent line and length but Ben and Arthur played straight and sensibly pushed singles here and there.  A moment of madness saw Arthur run out after the keeper had fumbled the ball.  Once he'd gathered it, the keeper could have easily run Ben out but opted to throw it to the non-striker's end.  James came in at number 3 with Ben on strike only to be caught next ball.  9 for 2 off three overs - not a great start.

Recent centurion Irfan came to the crease with a job to do.  Over the next six overs, Irfan and Ben took the score on to 78 for 2 with James batting nice and steadily at one end.  At the other, Irfan did a demolition job hitting the ball really hard and smacking five consecutive fours in one over plus a single off the sixth.  Irfan took one giant swipe too many as he was eventually bowled for a rapid fire 53.  Johnny came in and added 6 before being caught.  Chay followed adding just 3 before falling to the same fate with the total reaching 98 after 14 overs.  Timon came in and batted brilliantly. He took runs around the field stepping down the wicket and hitting a succession of sweet cover drives.  Meanwhile, James continued to plug away but eventually fell to a thin-edged full toss which went straight to the keeper.  No sooner had Zain arrived than he was run out trying to push the score in the final overs.  Timon carried his bat with 22 not out and SNCC finished with a healthy 137 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs.

Victoria Park came out with a determined mindset but Irfan clean bowled their opener second ball.  Shimo came in at number 3 and hit a big four off his second ball to show that he meant business.  Arthur bowled tightly at the other end whilst Irfan was on the receiving end of some attacking batting from Shimo and supported solidly by Victoria Park's other opener, Joe.  Johnny came on first change and struck early - bowling Shimo the danger man for a speedy 16.  Timon came on at the other end and produced a fantastic bowling performance which proved decisive.  The pick of the balls was a drifting off cutter which nipped back sharply from outside off and took out middle stump.  Ben picked up a nice wicket (bowled) at the other end. Timon finished his four over spell with superb figures of 4 for 9.  Zain, Amir and Joe all picked up a wicket a piece whilst Luke and Chay were unlucky not to strike.  Victoria Park had reached 44 for 4 off their first 8 overs and, whilst not matching the required run rate, they were still fighting at the half-way mark.  Things collapsed in the second half eventually getting bowled out for 69 which was exactly half of what was required.

In the end, a convincing win from Stoke Newington with some notable individual performances of both bat and ball.
