Wednesday 27 April 2011: Stoke Newington U15s -116 for 3 vs Hornsey U15s B - 60 all out. Won by 56 runs (league).
Under a cloudless April sky, Hornsey won the toss and elected to field. This was SNCC’s first league game of the season, shortened to 16 overs to ensure no-one had to bat by candlelight. Hornsey’s opening pair delivered good line and length which made runs difficult and picked up a couple of wickets along the way. Opener James (Barbour) stayed at the crease and was joined by Theo (Walsh) who saw off the opening pair and launched into the first change Horsey bowling making 43 and 44 respectively. SNCC finished with 116 for 3 leaving Hornsey with a run rate of over 7 on a big pitch.
Chay opened the bowling and picked up 2 good early wickets. Irfan, on his debut, tore into the Hornsey batting line up picking up a hat trick in his second over when the score had barely reached 20. In his role as captain, Madhur opted to give everyone a bowl which allowed for some extra runs but picking up wickets along the way including a tidy caught and bowled from Timon on his birthday. Hornsey finished all out for less than 60 and SNCC wrapped up a solid first league win before the sun had set in N8.
