Thursday 17 May 2012: SNCC U15s - 201 vs Regent's Park U15B - 54 all out. Won by 147 runs (league)
SNCC won the toss and elected to bat with a chilly wind and grey clouds above. We got off to a disastrous start as both Ben and James fell without scoring. They were bowled to straight balls trying to hit the ball out of the ground but taking their eye off the object of their efforts. Johnny came in at number 3 to settle things down, playing straight and scoring solidly. At the other end Irfan was making history. His innings was brimming with purpose and aggression, taking on an admittedly weak bowling line-up, but this is not to take away from what was a dazzling batting performance. Boundaries abounded with each six seemingly hit harder and further as the innings progressed. Irfan hit a monster 24 in one over and the scoreboard began to look incredibly healthy at 166 for 3 off 13 overs. Irfan retired after making his boundary busting century - a club record as far as everyone is aware. Full credit to Johnny who held his own at the other end, finishing with 31, and Arthur who followed batting nicely and ending on 24. Chay, Amir, Timon and Luke all contributed giving SNCC a whopping 201 from their 20 overs.
Regents Park came out and valiantly defended against a strong opening bowling attack. Luke and Joe picked up a few wickets each and, where Regents Park had put down many catches, we held onto every one which made their task even harder. It was fitting that at 54 for 9 from 12 overs Irfan opted to bowl himself, and the stumps of the final batsmen were skittled on his second ball. Whilst the team played well, this really was a match dominated by a crushing 60 ball century from Irfan which almost single handedly put the game beyond reach.
