SNCC U12B v Primrose Hill U12B
Hackney Marshes, Sunday 26 April 2015
SNCC 81 all out
Primrose Hill 78-9
SNCC win by 3 runs
Team: Tom Davies (Capt/wicket keeper); Haroon Ali; Jude Horspool; Matthew Beck; Layth Qureshi; Sam Solman; Zaid Dawood; Daniel Johnson; Yash Verma; Jonty Verma; Archie Parnum;
A slow outfield and tight bowling combined to produce an exciting, if relatively low-scoring, win for SNCC against Primrose Hill. Coming in with the score at 21-2, Matthew Beck held the batting together with 20 not out, with key partnerships including 15 added with Layth (21-36); 22 with Daniel (DJ, 36-58); and 12 with Zaid (68-81). Whilst on a different day many singles would have gone for four, 81 was always going to require controlled bowling to be competitive. Primrose Hill bowled and fielded well and took some difficult catches in cold conditions.
Once Archie Parnum and Haroon Ali had reduced Primrose Hill to 15-4 all appeared to be over bar collecting the boundary markers. Not so. The fifth wicket pairing of Harry (20 not out, starting from number 4) and Joel (20) took the score to 50, and other batsmen stuck around to see only nine required from the last nine balls, with eight required to win from the final over. Daniel stepped up to bowl; avoided wides; took a wicket and four were required off the last ball. Line and length saw the ball carry to Tom Davies’ wicket keeper’s gloves untroubled by the bat and the game was won. A number of bowlers played really well under pressure, including openers Archie Parnum (4O-1M-2R-2W) and Haroon Ali (3O-11R-1W); followed by Sam Solman (4O-12R); Daniel (4O-18R-1W); and more of Zaid’s memorable leg spin (3O-11R-1W). Jude Horspool bowled tightly at a key point and was busy in the field.
Field placing was generally better this week: some catching practice may be required. But another enthusiastic team effort with everyone contributing against a very sporting Primrose Hill side.
