Nine-man U12Bs march on!
SNCC U12B v Regent's Park U12B
2 May 2015, Regent's Park, 20-20 league
RPCC U12B 108-7; SNCC U12B 110-1 off 17 overs
SNCC: Tom Davies (capt/wicket-keeper); Haroon Ali; Nishal Patel; Sam Solman; Khairo White; Zaneswe Zulu; Toby D-Hughes; Archie Mount; Archie Parnum
Nine-man SNCC U12Bs maintained their unbeaten start in this 20-20 league match played in conditions favouring penguins rather than jungle creatures at the adjacent zoo. Regent's Park won the toss and elected to bat and made steady progress to 108-7. Whilst individual bowlers did well (most particularly Archie Parnum 4O-3W-17R; debutant spinner Archie Mount 4O-3W-13R; supported by solid overs from Sam Solman, Khairo White, Haroon Ali, Zanezwe Zulu and Nishal Patel) on a different day the failure to take catches (about six in total) would have resulted in defeat. On the other hand, it was a cold day and Archie Mount showed how to do it with a sharp catch off his own bowling.
The outcome of a match between teams of similar ability, with enthusiastic support on the boundary for the home club, was determined by an excellent opening partnership between SNCC's openers Khairo White (33, having batted to within a run of victory) and Tom Davies (50 not out, his second undefeated half century in three innings). Tom Davies retired with the score on 84. For those present for the first game of the season against Highgate this opening stand was, as Tuffers would say, a case of deja vu all over again. From 84-0 Haroon Ali and Khairo batted patiently to secure a deserved win.
Next game: Monday. Catching practice needed.
