Maiden fifties for Sam and Layth!
SNCC U12 B v Highgate U12B
Sunday 21 June 2015, Hackney Marshes
SNCC U12B 167-1 (Sam Solman 67 not out; Layth Qureshi 52 not out)
Highgate 83 all out (20 overs) (Archie Parnum 2W; Mujahid 3W; Daniel Johnson 2W)
SNCC win by 84 runs
Another day: another dominant performance from this unbeaten side. Two wins from the final three games will secure the title. With usual openers Khairo White and Tom Davies unavailable, the strength in depth of the batting was demonstrated by the only three batsmen required to take guard. A useful knock by Haroon Ali ended on 18, after which confident batting from Sam Solman (67 not out, adding to his 46 not out last week) and Layth Qureshi (52 not out, his maiden half-century) saw the score progress to set a demanding target of 168. Although Highgate batted through the 20 overs – the last wicket fell on the last ball of the 20 – tight bowling and fielding meant they were always behind the rate. Archie "Mr Dependable" Parnum delivered control and permitted few runs for his two wickets; debutant Mujahid claimed three; Daniel Johnson was back on form with two; and Haroon Ali confirmed his status as an all-rounder with one.
So another victory for teamwork. The twin ambitions remain of winning the league and remaining unbeaten. It can be done!
