In perfect conditions at Hackney Marshes a dominant batting display by Stoke Newington ensured that their unbeaten season continued.
Having won the toss captain Khairo White elected to bat and thereafter set out to show why. Yet another opening partnership with Tom Davies passed 50 - at over 8 an over - before Tom was trapped leg before on 18. Unhappily, this halved Tom's season's average to a mere 80! Khairo was however joined by Sam Solman and they stayed together to see the score to nearly 200. Khairo's 50 came with the score on 102, and he went to his hundred with his 20th four, many struck fluently and with characteristic timing as on-or-off drives. Mission accomplished he limped off undefeated to universal acclaim. Sam's 46 not out featured 8 fours and represents his highest score of the season. Encouragingly for future games, this was a story of strong batting rather than weak bowling, and there was more batting to come.
Getting more than 10 runs per over was always likely to induce wickets and it was to Finchley's credit that they reached what would normally represent a competitive total – 114 - for the loss of only five. As ever, the Archies (Parnum and Mount) bowled tightly without any one bowler having a memorable day. Archie Mount took two good catches, albeit one from a no ball, and the overall standard of fielding is a marked improvement on the opening games, with a couple of well-executed run outs illustrating the point.
With victory a mathematical certainty a few wides crept in. If the team continues to concentrate, however, the title is there to claim.
