Four wickets for Layth as U12Bs win at Finchley
Stoke Newington CC U12B v Finchley U12B League
Finchley 14 June 2015
Finchley U12B 118-6
SNCC U12B 119-1 from 19.1 overs
SNCC win by nine wickets
Another win for the U12B team that puts the league title within reach. In wet conditions, with borderline drizzle at times, bowling and fielding was tricky for everyone. Finchley elected to bat and were restricted to 118 largely down to four wickets for Layth Qureshi and two for Nishal Patel, with a great run out thrown in for good measure by Nishal. Archie Mount and Haroon Ali added their own smart fielding for other run outs. Under 10 legend Zaid made a welcome return and delivered some fine leg spin even with a wet ball on an artificial pitch.
118 is a competitive enough target especially, as here, with a slow outfield. Khairo White and Tom Davies's opening stand was 35 before Tom went for 17. Layth Qureshi came in and stayed in to finish on 19, and Finchley dropped two early chances from Khairo who ended on 47 not out, taking him to 149 not out against this opposition in a single week. Every schoolboy knows that catches win matches, and these were chances that had to stick to prevent a Stokey win.
Two wins from the last four matches will clinch the title for the U12Bs.  If the league is won, the remaining games will give some of the middle order batsmen a chance to open.
