Father's Day Fun at Finchley for U11Bs
Sunday 17 June 2012: Finchley U11C - 47 all out vs SNCC U11B - 49 for 1.  Won by nine wickets (league).
Finally the sun was shining, with the only memory of our recent rain being an extremely soft wicket at Finchley.  Due to the very slow wicket the captains agreed that a delivery could (at the umpire's discretion) bounce twice without being called a no-ball.
Captain Harry Boulding won the toss and chose to field.  There was some cautious batting to begin with from Finchley with Saihaan and Pele's bowling pinning the opening batsmen to 11 runs off the first four overs.  Jack and Ben turned up the heat on the Finchley openers who, in attempting more expansive strokeplay, left space for the pair's precision bowling and the two boys chalked up six wickets between them.  Bogle bowled another victim and Tommy captured a wicket with the aid of a flying catch from Jack at leg gully.  The final two wickets fell to Thomas, including a fine stumping from U10 keeper, Finn, who made an excellent U11s debut.  Finchley C were all out for 47 after 15 overs.
Finchley C quickly swept away any ideas of an early victory with some very confident bowling, leaving Stokey on just 9 after the first four overs.  Pele's father Wayne had a very difficult decision to make on Father's Day and sadly had to rule opener Pele out in his other role of the day - umpire!
Jack was now settled at the wicket and growing in confidence.  He had the measure of the soft wicket and soon began to notch up the runs with a fine display of batting.  In a very noble display of sportsmanship, both Jack and his partner Ben retired with Stokey on 45 for one to make way for Saihan and Bogle.  However, the Finchley bowlers immediately gave away four wides and the U11 B team continued their unbeaten streak, winning the match by nine wickets.
