Saturday 12 June 2011: SNCC U11s - 105 for 3 vs Primrose Hill U11s B - 89 for 9. Won by 16 runs (league).
Losing the toss on a damp all-weather pitch, with a slow outfield and chilly conditions, Stoke were put in to bat. Primrose Hill bowled tightly and kept the usually prolific openers to 17 off six overs, before Flint Drummond was bowled. Elliot Dixon was out soon afterwards, bringing Henry Pratt to the crease at 27 for 2 off nine overs.
Having seen off some very good Primrose Hill opening bowling, Stoke Newington went on the attack. Sal Whitehead and Henry Pratt built a partnership of 63 off nine overs, before Henry was bowled for 16. Sal went on to score an excellent 44 not out, receiving some good support from Tom Mills in the final overs. Stoke Newington finished on 105 for 3.
Henry Pratt started Stoke’s bowling off with a maiden over, supported at the other end by Antannis Weston, the first six overs going for 16 runs. At the halfway point Primrose Hill were slightly ahead of Stoke at the same stage, though some way off the run rate. Then Primrose Hill swapped batsman over and started to chase down the total. At 66 off 16 overs, the game was still in the balance. Some panic started to set in to the Stoke fielding, with some wild overthrows. But then a piece of quick thinking by Tom Mills, throwing down the stumps after backing up, changed the game.
Five more direct hit run outs followed, coupled with a caught behind by Saul off Oscar’s bowling and a wicket from Sal, left Primrose Hill needing 25 off the last over. Arran bowled the final over, keeping a cool head under great pressure, and Primrose Hill finished on 89 for 9.
Stoke won by 15 runs.
