Tuesday 13 June 2011: Hornsey U11s - 89 all out vs SNCC U11s - 65 for 9. Lost by 24 runs (cup).
Losing the toss, Stoke were put into bowl against a strong Hornsey 11, which featured several county players. An excellent display of bowling and fielding followed from Stoke Newington - Henry Pratt 2 for 14 off 4, Alfie Kingsley-Smith 0 for 11 off 3.1, Sal 4 for 11 off 4, Antanis Weston 2 for 17 off 4, Tom Mills 1 for 14 off 2, Flint Drummond 0 for 10 off 2. Some excellent fielding too, with a one-handed stop by Clem Harrison at mid-on, of exceptional note. Hornsey were bowled out for 87.
Stoke’s reply started slowly against accurate and fast Hornsey bowling and, even though the run chase was relatively small, Stoke were soon behind the run rate. Sal Whitehead took the batting honours with 20, but after that Elliott and Tom were the next best scorers with 7 each. Stoke finished on 65 for 9.
Stoke ( top of Division 2) easily matched Hornsey (top of Division 1) in the field, with good displays from both teams. There was some fine front-foot driving from all the Stoke top-order batsman, but Hornsey’s field placement thwarted any runs being made. It was an excellent evening's cricket.
Absolutely no disgrace in being defeated by an excellent Hornsey team. Well done for a great cup run!
