Friday 3 May 2013: SNCC - net 135 vs Hornsey - net 69. Won by 66 runs (league)
On a pleasant early summer Friday evening on the Marshes Hornsey were the visitors for the U10s in their first match of the season in the Gubby Allen league.
Electing to bat Stokey started at a great pace with the opening pair of Joe and Stan running and hitting hard. After their four overs there were 43 runs on the board for no wickets - a great start. Henry and Jameel took up the mantle and the score after eight overs was 80. Luca and Jamie continued the progress, managing to preserve their wickets and amassing 24 runs. Remy and Zakir came in and, despite losing a couple of wickets to some good Hornsey bowling, kept the score going up and hitting boundaries. The final pair of William and Theo kept up the good work, leaving Hornsey a challenging total of 135 net.
Taking the field in the setting sun, the Stokey boys bowled with vigour and accuracy, taking good catches and putting the Hornsey batters under pressure. They ended up taking eight wickets in the twenty overs and Hornsey finished with a net total of 69, meaning Stoke Newington won the match by 66 runs. Remy kept wicket for the whole innings and showed great concentration in keeping the extras total down.
Thank you to our visitors for playing in a good spirit and congratulations to the whole team who started the season in fine fettle. Let’s hope the sunny weather and good form continues with matches against Brondesbury, North London A and Primrose Hill in the next 10 days.
