Summertime reaches East London
The first match of the season took place on a sunny Sunday morning with the Marshes looking at its best. The U10s took on an U10 team from Wanstead in a pre-season friendly. The Stokey team boasted some considerably experienced players but also several less experienced talent.

Ably captained by William Holden, Stokey won the toss and elected to bat.
The first pair, Jameel and Rajesh, started steadily against some strong Wanstead bowling and took the score on to 24 in the first four overs without loss, setting the team up well.

George and Zakir then took to the crease and grew in confidence over their four overs, moving the score on to 55, once again without losing a wicket.  Zaneswe and Tom Davies then took over and once again saw no wicket fall in their four overs, the score was now 77.

Luca and Jamie came in and managed to score well off the bat adding 27 runs for no wickets with Luca scoring two excellent fours.  Larry and William came in as the last pair and had the misforune to end up facing an excellent last couple of overs bowling, but kept their heads and Stokey finished with a nett score of 100 after losing 3 wickets putting them in a strong position.

In the field Stokey excelled with top-notch bowling from all with special mention to Luca (who bowled with pace), Zakir (who bowled with great maturity) and William who took two wickets in two balls and was close to his hat-trick. Other wickets fell regularly to bowlers throughout the team, and in total 9 wickets were taken. Special mention to George for a good performance as Wicketkeeper for the first half and Tom Davies for two excellent catches.

Wantsead finished with a net score of 7 giving Stokey a victory by 93 runs.

What was really pleasing was the small number of extras conceded with only three wides and two no balls in the twenty overs - a very low total for U10s cricket.

Thank you to Wanstead who played the match with great spirit and sportsmanship, and well done to the Stokey boys for a good start to the season.
