Sunday 19 June 2011: SNCC U10s - 150 for 2 vs Wanstead U10s - 67 for 10. Won by 93 runs (friendly).
An excellent all-round performance brought Stokey a comfortable win against a Wanstead team with a couple of very strong all-rounders.
Stokey's best batting of the season saw runs accumulated throughout the order via a potent combination of judicious hitting and elegant strokeplay. Top scorers were Sal Whitehead (13), Dillon Singh (10) and Harry Tanner (10), although every batsman chipped in with sensible shot-selection and committed running between the wickets. Building a total of 150 net for the loss of only two wickets against a decent attack shows how much the team have developed already this season.
Early strikes from Dillon Singh and Alfie Kingsley-Smith (two wickets in two balls), together with a run-out, quickly made the game safe. Despite the lack of pressure, the bowling remained very tidy and the fielding saw two contenders for catch of the season. The diving effort from Sal Whitehead to take a skier at cover was spectacular, but was perhaps bettered later on by U9 Thomas Holden, fielding at short midwicket, who swooped low to snaffle a skimming pull-shot, leaving the batter understandably bemused and the catcher's fingers in need of painkilling spray.
Another strong showing leaves Stokey in good spirits for the decisive league encounters against Primrose Hill and Hornsey which will define their season over the next fortnight.
