1st XI win the VPL title!
Monday 8 August 2011: SNCC - 127 for 3 vs Bengal Tigers - 119 for 6. Won by 8 runs (VPL).
Stoke Newington lost the toss and were put into bat Scott and Ali starting well, picking up singles and moving the score along nicely. Neither really looked in any trouble until Mc Donald came on from the cricket nets end. Almost immediatly he caused trouble, having a caught behind turned down in his first over before getting Scott caught in his second for 40. In came Andre who started in his usual blistering way with a huge six followed by a two, but was caught off a top-edge third ball. In came Sarafat who was caught off his second ball and suddenly Stokey were looking fragile.
At this point Ali started hitting out and was well supported by Arif who was joined by Furcan after Ali's retirement. The Tigers were probably pleased with a target of 128 after the big opening stand.
Stoke Newington 127 for 3
Joge and Mc Donald started steadily getting to the early forties after five overs, when McDonald went, bowled by Scott for 13. Cook came in and hit a quickfire 13 (three fours) before he was bowled by Ali. However by now the run rate was climbing and some desperate running mean that Joge (49) and Davie (0) were run out. Needing 29 off the last 3 overs it was looking interesting. The police helicopters circled, the dark drew in and in the next over seventeen year old Furquan gave away only a single. In the next York hit a couple of fours and scurried a few singles to leave 14 from the last over. Simon bowled a dot, followed by bowling Shald's off stump. Next was a single, then another, and another, before York hit a four from the last ball. It didn't matter as Stoke Newington knew they'd won the match and the league!
