Seniors defeated by students in VPL opener

Tuesday 3 May 2011: East London Community College - 179 for 4 vs SNCC - 84 for 5.  Lost by 95 runs (VPL).

Our first game of the season was against the division one winners of last year - a curious grading system.  Tom Ashman, our captain, won the toss and chose to field.  Gus opened the bowling with Irfan (U15's) - both are really quick and had the openers jumping!  Irfan made an early breakthrough and we looked to be cruising.  However, Gus hurt his back in the second over and could only hobble about thereafter.  We bowled well and picked up another few wickets, one from a run out, and things were looking reasonable.  Their middle-order big-hitters did for us - Ajmal scoring 44no and Ibrahim 35no in the last five overs to end up 179 for 4 off the 16 overs.

We started badly with Felix going first ball and they picked up wickets regularly all the way through the innings with only Winston (16), Mark (14no) and Gus (14no) getting to double figures. We finished on 84 for 5 from our 16 overs, losing by 95 runs.
