Saturday 11 June 2011: Royal Sovereign - 132 for 8 vs SNCC - 132 for 1. Won by 9 wickets (league).
For the first time captain Scott Doody won the toss and chose to bowl on a sticky-looking wicket.
Irfan (an U15) and Simon opened and, after a maiden from Simon, Irfan struck early in the second over, bowling Ian. The openers bowled out (Simon bowling the other opener Ian as he tried to slash through midwicket) to be followed by Furqan and Winston. Wickets came steadily with Guy the only batsman looking like he might break the bowlers' stranglehold.
Royal Sovereign made 132 for 8 from 36 overs, but really the bowlers figures tell it all.
overs maidens runs wickets
Simon 6 1 22 1
Irfan 6 2 28 2
Furqan 6 0 18 1
Winston 6 1 17 1
Taha 6 1 12 0
Ali G 2 0 27 1
Kashif 4 1 5 2
Stoke Newington's openers strode to the crease knowing that the score was gettable, but that maybe the pitch was questionable and that rain loomed.
Scott Doody went straight to the task hitting the opening ball for four. Den stayed with him supporting well as Stoke Newington cruised towards the target, passing 100 without loss. Den went for 23 only for Winston to come in seemingly in the same mood as Scott. Winston's six taking the score to within two runs of the target and leaving Scott marooned at the other end on 97 not out. Stoke Newington passed the 132 target in 16 overs.
Stokey's first win in the Saturday League!
