Wednesday 25 May 2011: SNCC U9s - 87 for 2 vs Hornsey U9s/10s - 86 for 2. Won by one run (friendly).
A much-changed Stokey U9 team continued their unbeaten season, winning a tight game at the Marshes against a mixed Hornsey U9s/U10s side. Captain Thomas Holden won the toss and elected to bat first. He himself opened the batting with Emile and the pair quickly set to work on the Hornsey bowling. Runs flowed easily in the first few overs despite accurate Hornsey bowling and the next pair of Remy and Jameel continued the momentum. The younger Stoke Newington middle order found runs harder to come by, but defended stoutly and ran between the wickets well. Once again Stokey only lost two wickets, both late on, and a late flourish from Joe and Bogle pushed Stokey up to a very respectable 87 for 2.
Stokey quickly made inroads into the Hornsey batting with Joe and Thomas both bowling superbly. Thomas took a quick early wicket and then Remy on as first change quickly added another. Remy's wicket was a reward for persistence after earlier being denied a wicket by a no-ball. After their poor start Hornsey batted superbly against the younger Stokey bowlers (who were given great encouragement from the senior players). Once again the whole team excelled in the field but special mention must go to Gaby who showed his athleticism in the field with some key stops in the deep.
The final over started with Hornsey needing eight to win, but tight bowling from Emile left them needing three from the last delivery for the spoils. An impressively straight delivery from Emile (considering the pressure) and an intelligent piece of fielding from Thomas to hang on to the ball while Hornsey ran a single, saw Stokey run out winners by one run yet again.
