Last Man Stands comes to Hackney!

C'mon dads, get your kit on!

This summer a new social cricket league is being launched at the Marshes - the Hackney Marshes Last Man Stands League - and Stokey have entered a team.

Here's an extract from the ECB's press release:

"Last Man Stands, or LMS as it is commonly known, is a brilliant and exciting format of the game of cricket which is played in over five countries around the world. England alone already has over 35 established leagues in existence.

...Typically each game of Last Man Stands is completed in just two hours making it the perfect game to play on midweek summer evenings. It’s quick, exciting, and fast-paced – so what are you waiting for?

Last Man Stands is all about the excitement of Twenty20 cricket with a difference. Twenty overs are played, but with five balls per over instead of six, each side consists of eight players as opposed to the regulation 11, and sides can only be bowled out when all eight players are dismissed – hence the name, Last Man Stands."

There might be just a hint of hyperbole about LMS... and I'm not sure either that we'll be challenging for the £10,000 prize money on offer to the LMS World Champions...

However, it should be some old-fashioned fun with a contemporary twist - the league really is meant to be recreational for those who haven't played competitive cricket for a while (if at all).  We're looking for dads who are perhaps a bit out of practice but who fancy pulling on their whites again for a bit of a laugh and some banter.  The league will also issue us with some garish IPL-style match shirts - what further incentive could there be...

Matches will take place at Hackney Marshes every Thursday evening (starting at 6.30pm) from 9 June to 11 August - click here for the fixture list.

There's no need to commit to all ten fixtures - we'd like to put together a squad and rotate things so that everybody gets a go.  If you're interested in joining our elite LMS squad (or playing for any of our senior sides), just get in touch with any of the club's coaches or send an email via the Contact Us section of this site.
